Monster’s First Birthday Party! Dinosaur Theme
We have worked very hard over the last week and I’ll tell you why. Yesterday, we celebrated Monster’s first birthday! We decided to go with a Dinosaur theme at a delicious pizza joint we love. I made the invitations myself using Vistaprint.
Guests were given party bags. Of course, I pimped Avon to the ladies. Included in the bags: Dino fruit snacks from the grocery store, Dino tattoos & Dino paddleballs from Party City, Now-and-Laters from Dollar Tree, and a small dinosaur figurine from Party City. Everyone also received a dinosaur bookmark or dinosaur stickers from Party City. The bags were purchased at Dollar Tree and tied with ribbon I had on hand.
Instead of a cake, I opted for cupcakes. Monster hadn’t had eggs yet, so I replaced the egg with banana (equal parts) for his cupcakes and made the rest regularly. We chose Pillsbury Funfetti mix and vanilla frosting (Husband’s favorite). I put food coloring in the frosting, and shaped the cupcakes into a dinosaur. When you see it: the #1 is backwards! Haha. The plates, cups, and utensils are also from Dollar Tree.
I made dinosaur bone bread sticks using my bread recipe and veggie cups for the Herbivores. The Dino bones (though you can’t see them clearly in the picture) turned out fantastic. They would also be great as dog bones for a puppy themed party or skeleton bones for Halloween. In the center of the veggies is leftover celery stocks, and off to the right side (not shown) I had romaine lettuce in a vase to add more decorations.
My Mother-In-Law made sugar cookies with T-Rex foot prints in them, and we bought some dinosaur eggs (jelly beans) for our Sweetivors to munch on. I also decorated the table with dinosaur egg cut-outs, Now-and-Laters, Dinosaur shaped fruit snacks, and dinosaur tattoos leftover from the favor bags.
My Mother-In-Law made Monster an awesome stuffed dinosaur. Our centerpiece was a present bag with a dinosaur on the front. I decorated it with tissue paper inside and bows on the outside. This centerpiece was perfect because it clearly represented where to place the gifts and it stood out enough to take on the centerpiece role as well.
All in all, I think he had a great time.
